A fact-filled astronomy show for anyone studying GCSE Physics, Astronomy or Triple Science.
Ideally suited to KS4 or anyone studying GCSE-level Astronomy and Space Physics as part of a Physics or Triple Science course.
We’re here to support schools who find teaching Space modules a bit of a challenge, and centres for adult learning to spice up an evening course.
Using our pop-up dome, we can simulate the formation of the Solar System and its place within the Galaxy; explain redshift and the expanding Universe; and using examples of visible nebulae, show the life cycle of stars. These topics are shared between the AQA and Edexcel exam boards.
And if you have a small group of students studying GCSE Astronomy, we can run two modules (one per exam paper), covering all topics from Planet Earth to Cosmology. This makes an excellent revision day to consolidate learning throughout the course. Depending on budget, we can run condensed sessions over a half day, or extended sessions over a full day. If time and budget allows, we could also include the fulldome film Dark: Understanding Dark Matter to help explain this enigmatic concept.
Visitors to the planetarium will usually be seated on the floor. The dome will comfortably hold up to:
• 30 KS3 to KS5 students plus supporting adults
• 30 mixed ages including adults
For students or adults unable to sit on the floor, we can include up to six chairs within the above numbers (supplied by the venue), together with floor mats and cushions.
The dome is fully accessible for wheelchair users, but this might reduced capacity. For individual requirements, just drop us an email.
The costs for The GCSE Roadshow are:
£250 for a half day: up to 3 hours show time
£400 for a full day: up to 5 hours show time
£250 for an evening: up to 3 hours show time
We offer special package prices for STEM events and science fairs; get in touch for a tailor made quotation.
TRAVEL & OVERNIGHT STAY
Travel is free within a 20 mile radius of Hastings, and charged at 45p per mile if you need us to travel further. And if the journey will take us over 2 hours, we may have to charge for an overnight stay which costs an extra £40. If our journey includes tolls and ferry charges, these will be added too.
LOCATION & SPACE
The travelling planetarium is for indoor use only and needs a floor space measuring 6 x 6 metres plus a height of 3.2 metres. The floor space needs to be clean and dry. Access to electricity is essential.
