Ashford St Mary's quoteA fact-filled astronomy show for anyone studying GCSE Physics, Astronomy or Triple Science.

Ideally suited to KS3, KS4 or anyone studying GCSE-level Astronomy and Space Physics as part of a Physics or Triple Science course.

With our GCSE Astronomy Show, we’re here to support schools, home educators and centres for learning, who find teaching space modules a bit of a challenge.

Using our pop-up dome, we can simulate the formation of the Solar System and its place within the Galaxy; explain redshift and the expanding Universe; and using examples of visible nebulae, show the life cycle of stars: topics shared between the AQA and Edexcel exam boards.

And if you have a small group of students studying GCSE Astronomy, we can run two modules (one per exam paper), covering all topics from Planet Earth to Cosmology. This makes an excellent revision day to consolidate learning throughout the course. Depending on budget, we can run condensed sessions over a half day, or extended sessions over a full day. If time and budget allows, we could also include the fulldome film Dark: Understanding Dark Matter to help explain this enigmatic concept.

Visitors to the planetarium will usually be seated on the floor. The dome will comfortably hold up to:

  • 30  KS3 students, plus supporting adults
  • 25  KS4 students, plus supporting adults
  • 30  mixed ages including adults

If any children or adults are not able to sit on the floor, we can include one or two chairs within the above numbers (supplied by the venue). For public shows we can bring floor mats and cushions; all you need to do is ask.

The dome is fully accessible for wheelchair users, but this reduces capacity. For individual requirements, just drop us an email.

The costs for our GCSE Astronomy Show show are:
£275 for a half day: up to 3 hours, unlimited shows
£275 for an evening: up to 3 hours, unlimited shows
£450 for a full day:
up to 5 hours, unlimited shows
£675 for an extended full day: up to 8 hours, unlimited shows

We offer discounts on afternoon sessions and special package prices for bookings over multiple days; get in touch for a tailor made quotation.

We travel to the following counties in South East England: East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey, Kent and parts of Greater London south of the Thames. Travel is charged at 45p per mile from our base in Hastings to your venue and back again. If the journey will take us over 1½ hours, we charge for an overnight stay which costs an extra £45. If our journey includes tolls and ferry charges, these will be added too.

The travelling planetarium is for indoor use only and needs a floor space measuring 6 x 6 metres plus a height of 3.2 metres. The floor space needs to be clean and dry. Access to electricity is essential.
