DATE: Friday 21st February 2020
TIME: 10am – 6pm
VENUE: Saint Augustines Events Centre, Brighton
PRICE: £3.50 per person (all ages)
SUITABILITY: All ages, Families

Step inside our mini celestial theatre for a truly cosmic experience; immerse your senses through awesome space images, video, animation and soundscape. Our spacetastic planetarium shows feature stars, planets, moons and galaxies. We’ll start our journey looking at the awesome spectacle of aurorae, then we’ll visit the Sun and think about where stars are born. We’ll look at star formation in a neighbouring galaxy before taking a closer look at our own galaxy, the Milky Way. Moving closer to home, we’ll see the International Space Station, along with planets, moons and comets in our Solar System. And we’ll finish off the show by thinking about the vastness of space and look at just some of the billions of galaxies within our Universe.

Visitors to the pop-up planetarium will be seated on the floor, but we make it nice and cosy with floor mats and cushions, and we always include some chairs for anyone who can’t sit on the floor. We’ll ask everyone to take their shoes off before going inside and to leave bulky things like coats and large bags outside the dome too, where they’ll be looked after by one of the Creative Space team.

Shows will last 25 minutes and each show will have a capacity of 30 people (babies to Baby Boomers), apart from the last two ‘Inclusive Shows’ when the capacity is 20. Once a show has started, the door will stay closed until the end of the show. We’ll let anyone out if they really need to go, but they won’t be able to come back in again, as this interrupts the flow and spoils the show for everyone else.

This sensory astronomy show is particularly suited to anyone with special educational needs. The first two shows are ‘Quiet Shows’, intended for anyone who experiences auditory overload or hypersensitivity (ASD, ADHD, etc) and their families, so if you have extra lively children, it’s best to avoid these shows. The last two shows are ‘Inclusive Shows’ and these are intended for anyone with disabilities; we can get up to five wheelchairs in the dome for these shows, but the capacity is reduced to 20.

Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult, and the adults need tickets too.
